Number 29

Berlin is full of beautiful entrances and doorways, I can hardly photograph them all! I found this one particularly appealing with the shape of the glass in the doors and the art deco details above. It's only sad that it has been attacked by taggers, but the more I explore Berlin, the more I am liking the decay!

  1. Graffiti can be a beautiful work of art...or a mess. In this case it is a mess. I absolutely love this building and door! Thank you so much for sharing Berlin here, I have always wondered about it and find it quite intriguing.

  2. I really don't like that kind of tagging which is so difficult to remove. We got tagged Saturday night and I am still p...... off!

    1. Ugh! I feel your pain. Berlin has A LOT of tagging. I don't know why they can't do more to stop it. Or why there is the tagging mentality to begin with.

  3. The shape of those windows is quite appealing. The tagging, not at all.

  4. In observing decay, your photos will make a nice complement to JM's work. Beautiful courtyard.

  5. I'm always wondering if these holes are bullet holes... Just over 10 years ago, I saw buildings in Sophienstr. and Grosse Hamburger Str. that were riddled with them...

    1. I do think those are bullet holes. This isn't far from Grosse Hamburger Str.

  6. A very dramatic looking entrance, the glass panes in the doors look almost sad... and like cieldequimper, I'm wondering if they are bullet holes too?!

  7. I'd say it has bee attacked by more than taggers, they look like shrapnel or bullet marks on the walls

    1. There is a cafe inside the building. Maybe I should try it one of these days. But there are so many places here! :)

  9. No. 29 sounds like something from a spy movie and this door would fit perfectly on the advertising posters! All we need now is a screenplay! I hate all that tagging!

  10. The architecture seems to be art nouveau, though maybe it is not pure. I have seen doors like that on art nouveau buildings.

  11. The more I see of tagging, the more I like the idea of them having to clean up the messes they make themselves.
