Wittenberg in black and white

Here's a look back at the city of Wittenberg. Something about this street really appeals to me, maybe it's the combination of the cobblestone streets and the old brick buildings, and, of course, the lamppost. Somehow I find the picture not as good as the real scene. Does that ever happen to you?

  1. i can't decide if the graffiti detracts from the scene or adds to it in this case. :)

  3. Cobblestones always appeal to me, but I'd like to see it for myself. The graffiti, though, detracts.

  4. I know the feeling of looking at a photo on the computer and seeing something less than what caught your eye in the field.

  5. I love this (with the exception of the graffiti). The cobblestone, the buildings....wow!

  6. Yes! There are some places so full of feeling that it's almost impossible to photograph them and it's really subtle. This is such a linear street - it's beautiful... though the graffiti is sort of jarring.

  8. I know the feeling, happens to me all the time! I look at a scene , take a shot and another one and at the end I delete. I like your picture very much , very atmospheric and b/w suits it very well.

  9. Our eyes always seem to capture a scene better than any camera! I really like this street too.

  10. Hate that the tags are on that wall! It takes away from an otherwise wonderful B&W!

    1. The graffiti is a little bothersome, but it's a way of life in Germany.

  12. It happens to me all the time. I guess the human eye just ignores parts of the scene you see. But the camera doesn't. Thanks for visiting this week's Monday Mural.

    1. For me, it's something about the angle... or I don't know. I can't really describe it. But I just thought this scene looked better in real life. It's sort of flat in this picture.
