Saint Michael

Here is a look at the remains of Sankt-Michael-Kirche in Mitte. Unfortunately, the church was badly damaged during the war and has never been fully restored, although parts of the building are still used. Sadly it wasn't open when I visited, but you can read more about the church here. Don't forget to take a look at Rubbish Tuesday for more old stuff.

  1. Interesting solution to the problem. Is there any chance it will one day be restored?

    1. I doubt it... it's sort of nice the way it is though. But I find it annoying that many German churches aren't open.

    1. It looks like it's only open for services, so the chances of me visiting are slim! ;-)

    1. The vacation was exhausting, but fun. My golf is still not where I'd like it to be, but hopefully will improve!

  6. Very sunny shot. Perhaps a little to much sun.

  8. It's such a shame that so much was damaged during the war: homes, schools, churches, lives....

  14. It is a lovely old building!! I am surprised that they have left some of it as ruins, and kept other parts in use. A special sort of War Memorial!!

  16. What's left looks clean and cared for. How ironic that it's not been rebuilt despite that. In a way I suppose we need to be reminded of all that war spoils.
