December theme day: Worker

With renovations ongoing in my apartment, I come into contact with a lot of workers. One of my most interesting interactions happened back in August. While tearing down the old wallpaper, we found an old wall safe in the bedroom. Of course there was no key, so we tracked down a safecracker who came and opened it for us.

We were all really excited when the safe opened to see what was inside. Sadly, there wasn't anything, but our worker built us a new key so we can use the safe in the future. As you can imagine, these kinds of specialized services are not cheap, but I think being able to tell the story of our safecracking is worth it! A new month is here and that means a new theme, for more workers from around the world, visit the CDP Theme Day.

  2. Uh oh. Now we all know where to go to steal your jewels! :) Very interesting find. I've got a great big safe in a closet. And that's full so a wall safe would have to be for just the really good stuff!

  8. What a great story for theme day! Too bad there wasn't any forgotten treasure. But, how curious that it had been papered over...

  10. Wouldn't it have been great to find something interesting inside? It makes me think about the time when my sisters and I were just kids and the house was being remodeled and an old fashioned transom above a door in our house was being closed up. My sisters and I decided we would put a costume jewelry ring up there in a nice box and leave it for someone else to discover years later. I wonder if it's still hiding inside the wall in the old house.

  11. Sorry the safe was empty but it does make a fun story and photo op! I lice in an old house and, as far as I know, there's no wall safe here. But we have torn down old walls and found interesting items. Nothing valuable, though. :)

    1. We found lots of old newspaper that was being used as insulation around the apartment. Even stuff that's not "valuable" is interesting.

  17. This is sure one of the best "worker" stories of the day. You will have to hang your Rembrandt over it. (And all of your blogger buddies will know where to look when we visit . . . !)
