Double poke

Double Poke in the Eye II was another piece that really caught my eye at the Neue Nationalgallerie. This work comes from American artist Bruce Nauman. It seems he's really into neon lights, many of his works use this medium. I just found this so whimsical!

I wanted two show both of the pairs of hands lit up, sorry if the shots are a little blurry. I know this is not exactly a sign, but I hope you'll indulge me. For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.

  1. Au contraire! It's definitely a "sign" of something. I'm just not sure what. :-)

  2. It stays a facinating way of making a lightline. The leds of today are not such fun but helas neon isn't used so much anymore. Nice find.

  4. It is very clever. I bit of a commentary on blaming society.

  5. How strange! Got to wonder what was in the mind of the artist. Maybe he'd just gotten a poke in the eye!

  7. Neon's an interesting choice as an art medium. Seems to me he may be commenting on lots of finger-pointing but not much illumination.

  11. Love this.
My mother was always warning about not waving anything around or "you'll poke someone's eye out". Didn't matter what you were waving!

  12. It is definitely whimsical, thanks for sharing this. I am not sure why but neon lights have always been an issue for me....my eyes are very sensitive to bright lights and when the sun is very strong.

  13. These are different Hal, I really like them. Funny you do a post with neon lights as only quite recently we went hunting for old neon signs around town and managed to find only a couple that weren't working too well. :)

  15. It is interesting. Whimsical. And made of neon. So it's a sign. And fun to see both " pokes". Nice.
