Remember

A cross memorializes victims at the Wall Memorial near Bernauer Straße. Such a strange time in history and it wasn't really so long ago. I'm linking this one with Tuesday Treasures.

  2. Appropriate in black and white. Strange- sometimes it seems like it's been ages and other times, as you say, not that long ago.

  7. I still remember when we climbed the stairs of the viewing tower to glimpse over the wall to the "other" side. So close and yet so different. A very poignant picture

  10. I agree with other comments. B&W makes a difference to the scene.

  11. This shot looks very much like it was taken in the 60s. A scary time, but even scarier is to realize that what happened then could happen again in the U.S.

  12. You are so right. It wasn't long ago at all. I was reminded of those crazy times when I watched the movie "Bridge of Spies" recently.

  13. I remember the wall and seeing reports of daring escapes. There have always been too many walls in the world and now many Americans want to build more. Thanks for sharing and please return again.

  15. All of these memorials really touch me. This one at the wall is especially touching. Those poor souls separated from their families is just heartbreaking. My daddy was in the first World War and I went to Europe to see the cemeteries and try to learn some of the history first hand but I never got to Germany. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful piece with us...it is especially pretty in black and white.

  19. A memorial to which victims? Have not seen this cross while we were living in Berlin. So full of meaning and emotions - beautiful!

    1. A memorial to those who tried to escape the DDR by going over, under or around the wall.
