Lucha libre

This mural looks like a masked lucha libre fighter to me. I haven't heard of the artist, but they must be well-known as the Pilpeled website is filled with other works. It's Monday again and you'll find more murals on Monday Mural.

Salve

There is something I really like about this doorway - actually many things! The arches, the details surrounding the door, the small oval window... but especially the built in Latin welcome mat!

Happy Friday! Hope you have a fantastic weekend ahead.

Shadowy designs

Interesting designs seen on a sunny day at the Marheineke Markthalle in Kreuzberg. For more shadowy shots, head over to Shadow Shot Sunday.

Landscape

A scene from the golf course made more beautiful in black and white.

Bode in black and white

I had a visitor in from out of town last weekend, so I actually got out and about and did some touristy things, like a boat ride on the Spree. I caught this shot of the Bode Museum during the ride. I love the architecture and hope you agree it's perfect in black and white. More treasures can be found at Tuesday Treasures.

Monochrome treasures

A familiar sight in Kreuzberg. Beautiful, old buildings marred by graffiti. More treasures are to be found at Tuesday Treasures.

Under the arches

It was such fun exploring underground. The architecture of the tunnels is really fascinating, it's just a shame most people never get to see this side of the city.

June theme day: Shadow and highlight

I love the way the light is streaming through this window onto the wooden floor and wall braces. My building is getting a new roof and we recently got to take a look around in the eaves before work got underway. I was lucky to get a few nice shots, though it was generally somewhat dark up there.

I can't believe another month has rolled around. Where does the time go? For more interpretations of this month's theme, click here.

Patterns

I am definitely someone who likes to look up, but sometimes it pays off to look down. I love the patterns created by these cobblestones. And the specks of cherry snow make the scene even prettier. It's Tuesday again, don't forget to stop by Tuesday Treasures.

Spiraling up

It is perhaps difficult to tell from this photo, but this is the staircase that takes you to to the top of the Juliusturm at Zitadelle Spandau. It was interesting that the stairs were against the walls of the tower instead of being right in the center. It was quite the walk up, though I find coming down is often worse! For more treasures, take a look at Tuesday Treasures.

More eagles

I do love the German eagles, even if they're on weapons of war.

You have to admit, these canons have their own artistic merit.

They certainly don't make them like that anymore! More treasures abound at Tuesday Treasures.

Renaissance fence

This fence is outside the Spandau Zitadelle. i'll be taking you on a tour of the Renaissance fortress next week, so I hope you'll come back. Until then, take a look at Good Fences

PS: Don't forget to stop by Halcyon Travels for of the beautiful Alsace.

Spirals

I just love photographing spiral staircases. Luckily, Berlin has no short supply of them! This one has a special touch of elegance to me and I think it looks great in black and white (even in color, it didn't look much different). I'm linking up with Tuesday Treasures today, stop by to take a look at more interesting things from around the world.

PS: There's more Alsatian glory at Halcyon Travels.

On the Gendarmenmarkt

A look at the beautiful Konzert Haus on the Gendarmenmarkt in Mitte. It's always a nice place to walk around and I think the beautiful architecture lends itself well to black and white. Hope you agree!

PS: I have an Alsatian mural of sorts for you at Halcyon Travels.

Architectural details

The Humboldt Box is a showcase for the soon-to-be-finished Stadtschloss. It is designed after the original Prussian palace that stood on these grounds until after WWII when the DDR razed it and built the Palast der Republik in its place.

This is a look at one of the original decorative pieces that has been cast in plaster to show visitors to the Box what some of the interiors will look like. There has been some controversy around the rebuilding of such an important Prussian symbol - people either love it or hate it. Count me as one of the lovers, I can't wait until it's complete!

I'll be showing more from the Humboldt Box this week, hope you'll stop by. I'm linking this post with Tuesday Treasures.

Church candles

I love photographing candles in churches. These were found inside the Berliner Dom. For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.

Remember

A cross memorializes victims at the Wall Memorial near Bernauer Straße. Such a strange time in history and it wasn't really so long ago. I'm linking this one with Tuesday Treasures.

Looking down

Looking down the spiral staircase that takes you up to the top of the cupola at the Berliner Dom, including a bonus look at my shoe!

Memorial

A memorial to victims of the National Socialist regime near the Reichstag. For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.

Looking through

A look through the gate at the Old Jewish Cemetery in Berlin. For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.
