Those big windows right above the museum entrance let in so much wonderful light! I love the lines and shapes they created here on the floor, though I found it almost hard to keep my eyes open.

This is the end of our tour of the Kunstgewerbemuseum, I hope you've enjoyed it. We've been having good museum weather here in Berlin - cold and rainy - but I think I'll take a break from the galleries for awhile and show some city shots. Stripes on stripes

Serendipity! I was in the right place at the right time. This woman in the stripey sweater was crossing the bridge in Volkspark Wilmersdorf just as the sun was making those wonderful stripey shadows from the barrier rails. Hope you have been having a wonderful weekend. It's rainy and gray here, but I'm planning to visit the Kathe Kollwitz Museum later on. Autumn day on the Spree

What a gorgeous season it has been. I have enjoyed strolling through the city with my camera, not only because of the beautiful colors, but also because of the unseasonably warm weather. The written word remains

I have been meaning to show my local book exchange for some time, especially after seeing the same concept on Visual St. Paul and Naples and Hartford in Season, or you may remember the Book Box in Grunewald. The Villa Libris is near my home and there's rarely a time that I've walked by and seen it empty. Sometimes there's a queue of three or four people waiting to get in! 

The book exchange is run by the local neighborhood association and was in danger of shutting down just last summer, but now it seems to be here to stay. The motto on the side of the booth reads verba volant, scripta manent, which translates to "the spoken word flies, the written word remains". A fitting motto. For more signs, visit Signs, Signs.

Here's another look at the Willy Brandt Haus but this time in black and white. It was a bright, sunny day when I visited and I love the shapes of the shadows. You can find more at Shadow Shot Sunday.

You sometimes find beautiful things in the most unlikely places. 

These lovely shadows were made by this door to a mausoleum. I thought they were perfect in black and white. Hope you agree!

Plötzensee Memorial

Gedenkstatte Plötzensee is on the site of the old part of Plötzensee Prison (there is still a functioning prison here). During the Nazi years around three thousand people were executed here, most of them political dissidents. I'll be showing more of the memorial site in the days to come. Stamp shoppe

We're back to Karl Marx Allee  the onetime showcase of East Germany. In those days it was still known as Stalin Allee and it was the grand boulevard for those that lived in East Berlin, with lots of fancy specialty shops. Most of them are gone now, but the facade of this old stamp collecting shop remains - a relic of the past. For more signs, visit Signs, Signs.

All the way from Italy

I was mainly attracted to this shop because of the integrated bench outside the show window, but after reading Lo Spaventapasserai's website, I'm even more interested! The clothing sold in this boutique is designed and produced in Italy - something pretty rare in our "made in China" days. I think I'll have to make a trip back and look inside.
