Gedenkstatte Plötzensee is on the site of the old part of Plötzensee Prison (there is still a functioning prison here). During the Nazi years around three thousand people were executed here, most of them political dissidents. I'll be showing more of the memorial site in the days to come. Until then, you can find more signs at Signs, Signs.

ReplyDeleteI just finished reading Remarque's A Time to Love and a Time to Die about living in Nazi Germany. Very scary times!

ReplyDeleteA sad sad chapter in the history of mankind -- one of too many; but we must never forget.
ReplyDeleteA sobering place!
ReplyDeleteThe Nazis weren't the only ones to execute dissidents though they certainly earned a reputation for being among the most enthusiastic. I'll never understand that inhumanity and cruelty.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cheery place. Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteSerious and solid walls. At least the sunlight and the open gate suggest that old history, at last is free of strife.
ReplyDeleteIt would be so sad to visit there.
