Heirlooms

I found these beautiful heirloom tomatoes irresistible! They were found during a recent trip to the Marheineke Markthalle in Kreuzberg.

Sweet stuff

The last stop on our cafe tour is the Süsskramdealer. It's a cute and quaint cafe/sweet shoppe located inside an old cigar shop. I've passed by many times and always wanted to give it a try, so I finally went for a visit recently with a friend.

In addition to hot drinks, they also serve cakes, sandwiches and salads. I guess you can already guess what I had... chocolate cake!

I'm not very good at denying myself the little pleasures of life. I'd definitely come back to this cafe, it's not so far from my home and I really liked the unique atmosphere. I hope you've enjoyed this week of cafes from Berlin. Happy weekend!

Another coffee house

Here's a look inside another cafe that I like to frequent, the GM 26. It is a bit further from my home, but still within walking distance. It's an especially nice place to go in the summer as they have a really nice outdoor terrace.

As I said yesterday, when chocolate cake is on the menu, I can't resist. This piece was so good, I forgot to take a picture until I was about halfway in. Oooops!

February theme day: Scene from a coffee house

I am so excited the February theme day is finally here! There's hardly anything I like better than spending an afternoon in a cafe with a good book or some knitting, though with my job, I have less time for those pleasures.

Today we're looking inside the Wild Caffe, one of my favorite local spots. It's a quick walk from my home and I have spent quite a few afternoons here enjoying the cosy atmosphere.

In addition to delicious coffee, Wild Caffe also serves a daily lunch special and a variety of cakes. When I stopped by a few days ago, chocolate cake happened to be on the menu and it's rare for me to turn down anything chocolate. I promise, it tasted as good as it looks!

It's a new month again and I hope you've enjoyed this look inside one of Berlin's lovely coffee houses. For more coffee scenes from around the world, take a look here.

Delicious sign

For only 7.50, you too could have a similar plate of delicious antipasti from one of the stands at the weekly Street Food Thursday in Markthalle 9. I can't vouch for the cold cuts, but the cheeses and vegetables are very tasty! For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.

Berlin breakfast

Breakfast is very important to Germans. This was my first meal in 2015 - breakfast at Schwarzes Cafe. It's a Berlin institution and one of the first places around here that started serving breakfast round the clock. But don't expect to find North American fare here, there are no pancakes and bacon on the menu. It's breakfast, fancified!

Tuk Tuk

Last Friday was my last day at the Goethe Institut. A few other students in my class were also leaving the institute, so we decided a dinner was in order. One of our fellow classmates is Indonesian and recommended TukTuk - I'm glad he did!

I had Balinese style tofu with tomato sauce (photo courtesy Der Kua). It was quite tasty, but there were lots of other things on the menu that sounded good as well, so I wouldn't mind going back. Until then you can see more signs at Signs, Signs.

Fire roasted lachs

The eating possibilities at the Christmas markets are almost endless! One of the more popular stands I've seen was the smoke salmon. They roast it on these planks right in front of you and then serve it up with a few slices of bread. A real tasty treat!
