August theme day: Bicycle

Berlin is a city chock full of bicycles and bicycle riders, so I was very excited about finally having a monthly theme with lots of possibility. I found many more "traditional" bike shots, but this crazy display caught my eyes a few days ago on Schloßstrasse in Steglitz. I have no idea how or why someone hung these bicycles on the streetlamp, but there they are! Another mystery for the ages.

Sparkly tree and lamppost

I wish a photo could really show the sparkle that was on this tree. It was really nice, especially against the backdrop of another gray day (although I can't complain too much, at least it's not cold).  This festive tree comes to you from a small Weihnachtsmarkt on Wilmersdorfer Straße. It's not one of the nicest markets around town, but you can at least stop at the cute huts for a little fortification in between all your shopping stops.

Wittenberg in black and white

Here's a look back at the city of Wittenberg. Something about this street really appeals to me, maybe it's the combination of the cobblestone streets and the old brick buildings, and, of course, the lamppost. Somehow I find the picture not as good as the real scene. Does that ever happen to you?

It's good to be on the lookout for details. For example, I love the Berlin Bear symbol atop this street sign. Although I have to admit, I originally took this photo to show the old East-style streetlamps. Hope you enjoy both! For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.

Snowy Dom

Here's a look at the Berliner Dom from outside. It does look lovely with a small blanket of snow! When the weather is good, you can walk around the outside of the Dom. But since it was cold and slippery, the outside walkway was closed and I only got a view through the windows. It was still worth the visit though, and maybe a reason to go back!

Happy Friday! I'm glad the weekend is finally here. I had some health problems this week, but they're finally clearing up. I'm going to see a few more apartments this weekend and probably play some golf. It should be a fun one. Hope you have some big plans too!

Winter comes to Berlin

We got our first snow of the season last week here in Berlin. I captured some of the first flakes on Alexander Platz for you. I think the scene looks even better in black and white, and I hope you'll agree!

Reflections from Pariser Platz

A typical city scene from Berlin - lots of new and old mixing together, but I like the result! Friday is finally here, hope you've got some big plans. I'm sure mine will include more house/apartment hunting. It's very frustrating as prices have risen substantially, even just over the last six months. Hopefully we will find our "home" soon though as I'm ready to settle in. Until then, enjoy more reflections at Weekend Reflections.
