Sony Center from above

This is a different view on the Sony Center than what I usually post! I found a secret cafe up in the rafters last summer with a nice terrace that gives onto the main space. If any of you are ever in Berlin, I recommend a visit!

Sunny days

Sadly, it seems the sunny days have come to an end. It's been cold and rainy here in Berlin and there's more autumnal weather forecast for the weekend. This shot was taken just this past Monday on German Unity Day. The weather was gorgeous and it was nice to see so many people out and about, both on boats and on land. I got this wonderful view of the Spree and the city skyline on the famous Kronprinzen Brücke (known locally as the dragon bridge) in Tiergarten. 

In other news, today was my last day on the job. Unfortunately, the company didn't have the financial means to extend my contract. It's a bit frustrating to know that I'll have to start over with my job search, but the dh and I have some big travel plans to look forward to in the meantime.

August theme day: City skyline

Here's a look at one of the icons of Berlin's skyline, the Fernsehturm, affectionately known to Berliners as the Telespargel. In the foreground you also have the lovely Oberbaumbrücke and if you look carefully between the two towers of the bridge, you can also see the Rotes Rathaus, Berlin's main City Hall. 

Of course there are other Skyline views of Berlin that are popular, such as the Brandenburg Gate or a look out over the city from the Reichstag, but I find this view especially nice as it's right over the Spree river. And I was lucky to catch some paddlers making their way westward into the city.

I can't believe another month has rolled around. I don't want the summer to end! Hope you've been enjoying your sunny days as much as I have. For more interpretations of this month's theme, take a look here.

Kaffee und Kuchen mit Stil

Like all good museums, the Humboldt Box also has a cafe! It's on the top floor of the building and gives onto the construction site of the new Stadtschloss.

 As you can see, real progress has been made in the past few years that this has been underway. The cupola was added in 2015, I remember it being in the news.

There is also other construction going on in the area. A new subway station that will eventually be part of the line 5 is being built on Museumsinsel to make it more accessible by public transport. It seems like this project has been going on forever. I can hardly remember a time in Berlin without that subway construction, but it will be finished one day.

 

There's also a beautiful outdoor terrace at the cafe, but unfortunately, the day I was there was a bit cold and windy. I wouldn't mind coming back here though, it's a good stop if you have people from out of town visiting as you really get some nice views over Berlin. Best of all it's all included in the price of your Kaffee und Kuchen! 

I'm glad it's Friday. I'm also glad the weather seems to have taken a turn for the better. I've got tickets for Hertha this weekend and I don't want to sit in the cold. Hope you've got something fun planned for the weekend as well. Have a good one!

Over the rooftops

We're back to the Rathaus Schöneberg. The highlight of the tour was a trip up to the top of the tower to see the Freedom Bell. The view wasn't bad either!

Looking out

Remember this place that I showed you back in November? Pretty soon, I'll be moving in! Although we didn't get the first apartment that we saw, another unit came up in January and after a lot of hard negotiating we were able to come to an agreement. We sign the papers today, but won't be moving in until the end of the summer as a lot of renovations are needed. It's very exciting though and the view you see here is from my new living room balcony. I'm sure this won't be the last time you'll be seeing this square on my blog. Happy Friday!!!

On the roof

It was a cold day back in January when I took the Deutsche Welle tour. It was definitely exciting to see the inner workings of a braodcast studio, but I think my favorite part of the tour was the trip up to the top of the building. 

It was really cold, but the view was worth it! Hope your week is going well so far. For more signs, you can take a look at Signs, Signs.

Hi Berlin!

When I got home and looked at this shot, it gave me a little chuckle. It sort of looks like that statue is waving, right? (Or is it just me?)

It''s always good to start Friday on a lighter note. I hope you've enjoyed this tour of the Berliner Dom. I still have a few more shots that I'd like to show, but maybe I'll wait for another time as two weeks of the same thing is probably enough. Hope you've got some interesting plans for the weekend. I might be traveling somewhere since my German class doesn't start up again until Tuesday. Until then, have fun!

The saint and the telespargel

Sadly as the weather conditions were so poor, the outside walk around the Dom was closed. I did do the indoor walk though and got some nice views from the windows. Unfortunately, they distort the images a bit, but I do think the haziness adds something to this shot. What do you think?

Sunny days

We haven't had many sunny days here in Berlin lately, so it's nice to remember when we did! This shot was taken from the Marienhohe in Templehof. I love the fall colors against a blue sky. Friday is finally here and for once, I don't have any plans. My husband and I have cooled off on the househunting a little, but we've got a couple of places in our sights that might work out. But it probably won't be until the end of January until anything is certain. Perhaps we'll do a tour of the Christmas markets this weekend. I hope you've got something planned! Blue skies over Berlin

This photo was actually taken a few weeks ago. My husband and I joined a gym which has a fantastic view over Berlin's main shopping street - the Ku'damm. Although I still find running on a treadmill incredibly boring, at least there's something nice to see outside the window!
