Double Poke in the Eye II was another piece that really caught my eye at the Neue Nationalgallerie. This work comes from American artist Bruce Nauman. It seems he's really into neon lights, many of his works use this medium. I just found this so whimsical!
I wanted two show both of the pairs of hands lit up, sorry if the shots are a little blurry. I know this is not exactly a sign, but I hope you'll indulge me. For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.
Au contraire! It's definitely a "sign" of something. I'm just not sure what. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt stays a facinating way of making a lightline. The leds of today are not such fun but helas neon isn't used so much anymore. Nice find.
ReplyDeletei love neon, works for me!
ReplyDeleteWell the saying is "better than a poke in the eye", he could be right
ReplyDeleteIt is very clever. I bit of a commentary on blaming society.
ReplyDeletevery cool and creative. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this piece!
ReplyDeleteHow strange! Got to wonder what was in the mind of the artist. Maybe he'd just gotten a poke in the eye!
ReplyDeleteC'est différent, ça...
ReplyDeleteVery neat!
ReplyDeleteIt's a sign...in how to poke one's eye :)
ReplyDeleteit's a cool neon sign.
Neon's an interesting choice as an art medium. Seems to me he may be commenting on lots of finger-pointing but not much illumination.
ReplyDeleteNeat neon! Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteIt's got something of a Stooges motif going on.
ReplyDeleteGreat. So colourful, they must have really 'leapt' out off the wall
ReplyDeletethat's pretty neat.
ReplyDeleteMy SIGNS, SIGNS
Love this.
ReplyDeleteMy mother was always warning about not waving anything around or "you'll poke someone's eye out". Didn't matter what you were waving!
It is definitely whimsical, thanks for sharing this. I am not sure why but neon lights have always been an issue for me....my eyes are very sensitive to bright lights and when the sun is very strong.
ReplyDeleteThese are different Hal, I really like them. Funny you do a post with neon lights as only quite recently we went hunting for old neon signs around town and managed to find only a couple that weren't working too well. :)
ReplyDeleteVery... 'eye catching'!
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting. Whimsical. And made of neon. So it's a sign. And fun to see both " pokes". Nice.
ReplyDeleteClever and colorful!
ReplyDeleteI think I need to go to the Nationalgalerie when I ( hopefully) come to berlin next week. It does look very interesting.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is a neon sign, and a good one. Well seen and posted.
