I recently visited the Museum for Contemporary Art at the Hamburger Bahnhof. Unfortunately, the museum (like many here in Berlin) is undergoing renovations and parts of the collection were not on display. I did however enjoy seeing some of the works of Joseph Beuys. Bueys was a masterful sculptor, but he is mainly remembered for his later works of performance art. These chalkboards are what remains of a performance entitled Directional Forces of a New Society. It was quite an interesting piece, I'm sure it was even more so at the original event. For more signs, visit Signs, Signs.
The chalkboards are a great way of portraying the messages, well shot!

There is a lot of good art to see for instance die Sammlung Marzona and the work of Mary Heilmann & David Reed.
ReplyDeleteand also the Dieter Roth conception "Weg mit den Minuten". The Hamburger Bahnhof is a nice place in the Berlin museums world.
All these pieces just break me up! :) Looks like a rather complete performance!
ReplyDeletehow interesting!
ReplyDeleteUnusual art as some of contemporary art can be! I read a recent comment you made on Kay's Sequim blog and I hope that you get a chance to read "The Boys in the Boat" which remains one of my favorite books. Yes, there definitely is a Berlin connection, but I find the backgrounds of the crew to be most compelling. Another book I recently finished that I like as much is, "Dead Wake" by Erik Larson about the sinking of the Lusitania with a definite German connection!!
ReplyDeleteJust reminds me of the chalkboard erasers I had to clean for the teacher after class and how I used to throw them up against the school's outside brick wall to shake all the dust out. :-)
ReplyDeleteAs is often the case, the story behind the photo is of great interest. (Even though a picture is supposed to be worth 1,000 words.) Nice.
ReplyDeleterandom and rather cool.
ReplyDeleteNot really my kind of art... but it's photogenic!
ReplyDeleteI would like to have seen the performance piece. It sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteChalkboard art. What is old is new again????

ReplyDeleteIt would have been interesting to see the event but even so, it's a cool photo subject!
ReplyDeleteIt does end up making for an interesting pattern. Hopefully the renovation work goes smoothly.
ReplyDeleteThese are so neat!
ReplyDeleteAn interesting shot.
ReplyDeleteNice shot.
