Impromptu memorial

Visitors to any of the major European cities have probably encountered a Stolperstein or two, but I have never seen one graced with flowers and candles before.

Friends or family of Bertha Pohl must have passed by and left this little impromptu memorial. I rather like it - it certainly caught my eye and made me remember how grateful we should be for our happy and carefree lives. It wasn't so long ago that people were persecuted just for being who they were. It was a dark period of German history that I am glad is over, but one that we must never forget.

  1. Seems quite appropriate, though.

  2. I am impressed that the memorial is getting fresh candles and flowers even at this late date.

  5. Never forget, in my Kiez we are cleaning the Stolpersteine and from time to time put a white rose.
Today persecution.starts against refugees. The first step of hate, I just cannot understand it

  6. Well, persecution for belonging to certain groups may be over in Germany...but not everywhere on our planet. Yes, this is a moving memorial. It certainly touches my heart.

  12. I have seen many Stolpersteine but never adorned with flowers - very moving! Otherwise I am with mia more - we have to fight racism and hatred against foreigners and we have welcome refugees.
