Although most buildings in both east and west Berlin have been renovated, you sometimes run across one that hasn't yet been modernized. I find the decay has a certain beauty, but with property prices on the rise here in Berlin, I'm sure it won't be long before this building gets a make-over. This is a prime spot near the Hackeschermarkt and I'm sure the owner will get a pretty penny for it!
I am glad I enlarged the photograph, The balcony is even more dilapidated than it appeared in the smaller photo. An investment for Mr. and Mrs. Halcyon?
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you shared this!!! I love the character of this building.
ReplyDeleteA dizzying angle!
ReplyDeleteIt feels desolate... but there's potential there. Terrific angle for the shot!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first went to East Germany at the beginning of the 1990s, the decay was absolutely incredible and for the most part, very ugly....
ReplyDeleteWhat a stupid title what do you mean by "east decay" ? And one other thing in the early 90s there was no more an East Germany. People should have a bit more instruction concerning Berlin in general.
ReplyDeletei find decay beautiful too and this is a gorgeous building!
ReplyDeleteAs "they" say, the place appears to have "good bones," and will make for a remarkable structure when it's been renovated!
ReplyDeleteMonochrome suits this image perfectly!
ReplyDeleteI think you know I could only love this shot! :-)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if some speculator is sitting on it?
ReplyDeleteI love these windows. Each row seems slightly different, yet they work well together.
ReplyDeletehave you found a place to live yet?
