More modern

These stairs take you down to the train platform in Oncle Toms Hütte station (yes there is a station called Uncle Tom's Cabin, click on the link to learn more). Although this station was originaly opened in 1929, the lighting fixtures and bricks seem more modern to me.

There are a few stations that are "aboveground" on the southern end of line 3 and this is one of them. Here you can see the fantastic glass ceiling that brings natural light onto the platform. It's a nice place to wait on a sunny day!

  4. I was there on my trip following all bauhaus related buildings. This is the only station made under direct influence by Walter Gropius if I am correct. Also the only one where you see the shops on the same level as the trains.

    1. I don't know if Gropius had anything to do with the station, but you are right about the shops being on the same level. It's a nicely designed station.

  5. C'est marrant parce qu'avant de lire ton texte, moi ça m'a fait penser aux roaring twenties... Donc si, si, je suis d'accord avec s.c. !

  7. I agree that this has probably been updated with some renovation. It's quite beautiful. Don't understand the name of Uncle Tom's Cabin, though.

  8. Awfully nice designed but far removed from the American novel and surrounding myths.
