Pride in Berlin

I saw a short piece of the Christopher Street Day parade here in Berlin over the weekend. It was great to see so many people out and about. People were genuinely happy and many were celebrating the US Supreme Court decision to allow gay couples to marry in all 50 states.

Berliners know how to party, but they also know how to clean up. I was amazed out how fast the BSR got the streets back to their original condition. Maybe next year I'll brave the full parade!

  2. Surprising to me that a decision by our Supreme Court is celebrated elsewhere.

    1. Gay couples in Germany still don't have full marriage rights. They can enter into "civil partnerships" but it's not marriage. I think many people see it as, if it can happen in the US, it can happen anywhere.

  3. Quite a party...nice shots! I too love those wings.
Though the U.S. Supreme Court decision is a real landmark it is - probably not surprisingly - generating backlash. Some areas in the conservative South are still refusing to grant marriage licenses and I've heard people on the radio promising to fight it. It's unfortunate that it threatens people.

  4. It was BIG world wide. I watched Pride San Francisco streaming on line for HOURS! A far way from the first timid marches of the early 70's!

  5. A very popular looking event, and it is surprising just how quickly streets return to their normal state after events!

  7. Love the comment Berliners know how to party AND know how to clean up! A fun, clean, time was had by all. And the proof exists only in the memories. Well done, Berlin!

  10. Why on earth wouldn't people be happy about SCOTUS' decision? This is cool, the parade in Berlin I believe is as good as it gets!

  15. It is fascinating how people all around the world celebrated a court decision in the United States that didn't affect them in any direct way.
