Socialist relief

A detail from one of the many "fancy" buildings along Karl Marx Allee. For more old stuff, take a look at Rubbish Tuesday.

  1. It looks stark, but of course that's to be expected.

  3. So.... ummm, wouldn't this be communist rather than socialist?

  6. I wonder how many people just pass by without looking up? It's great that you took the time to stop and photograph it. It is a very stark symbol of hope.

    1. I'm not sure hope is what many people felt when they looked up at this back in the East Germany days. But I agree, the symbols do appear full of hope. Part of the big irony, I suppose.

  8. Oh gosh "a stark symbol if hope" .Sarah seems not to know what the DDR regime looked like. Peopla today do not even have what I consider to be a "basic knowledge" of our history. What a shame.

  9. Hmmm. A relic from the past, a reminder of the repression of the communist regime.

  16. Karl Marx = Rubbish? :) Super post and I hope a bit tongue-in-cheek. Marx got a lot wrong but also got a lot right. But enough about me, how are you doing?
