For brides, funerals or work cartage... this place has got you covered! I don't think the translation sounds as funny as this sign really is in German, but I hope you get the idea. I found it at the recent Rixsdorfer Weihnachtsmarkt. I think it's one of the best in Berlin although it's only open the second weekend of Advent. For more signs, take a look at Signs, Signs.
to my eyes, it looks like an ad for a beer wagon. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like they aim to please everyone under all circumstances! Brides AND funerals and everything in between, I guess. :)
ReplyDeleteWas für eine Kombination! Naja die sind eben für jede Etappe des Lebens da! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a very nice night shot, Hal! The only thing is this place will not fulfill my automotive needs. I need a Porsche 911!
ReplyDeleteI bet Gustav could work something out for you!
DeleteThey do everything!
ReplyDeleteOh so that's what it's for! Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteGreat capture.
ReplyDeleteBeerdigungs - Automotive? Yes, that's funny:)
ReplyDeleteArbeitsfuhrwesen - what a word! Matches the name of the owner : Gustav! He must be a 100 years old!
ReplyDeleteAt least someone gets it! Obviously, it is not funny in English. :)
DeleteLooooove the lettering, especially the u of Gustav. Reminds me of my grandparents.
ReplyDeleteWeird!
ReplyDeleteThey have cars and will travel. Fine looking sign.
ReplyDeleteHuh! Something lost in translation, imagine that! Humor doesn't always translate well...
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's really supposed to be funny. Arbeitsfuhrwesen is a really old fashioned word. I guess they mean you could rent a bus for a special trip at work, but that word makes you think they might show up with a stagecoach or something.
DeleteWhenever I see German words, I find myself counting how many syllables might be involved in that twenty five letter word (or so it sometimes seems!)
ReplyDeleteI don't read German, but it's such an old, old business set up for so many outdated traditions...yet the sign is modern and lit!
ReplyDeleteFunny indeed.
ReplyDeleteFor brides and funerals... hmmm...
ReplyDeleteI don't know, it sounds not much motivating to me...
An interesting combination of thoughts on this sign. It was fun reading all these comments. I was wondering if the word "arbeitsfuhrwesen" was the key to the humor. It was the only word I couldn't translate.
ReplyDeleteWonderfully atmospherically lit!
