With renovations ongoing in my apartment, I come into contact with a lot of workers. One of my most interesting interactions happened back in August. While tearing down the old wallpaper, we found an old wall safe in the bedroom. Of course there was no key, so we tracked down a safecracker who came and opened it for us.
We were all really excited when the safe opened to see what was inside. Sadly, there wasn't anything, but our worker built us a new key so we can use the safe in the future. As you can imagine, these kinds of specialized services are not cheap, but I think being able to tell the story of our safecracking is worth it! A new month is here and that means a new theme, for more workers from around the world, visit the CDP Theme Day.
you mentioned a new apartment a few days ago. i'm hoping renovations are continuing on pace for your move-in!
ReplyDeleteUh oh. Now we all know where to go to steal your jewels! :) Very interesting find. I've got a great big safe in a closet. And that's full so a wall safe would have to be for just the really good stuff!
ReplyDeleteWe also have another safe, but a wall safe is much cooler!
DeleteThis is very cool!
ReplyDeleteAh, I see the search for Al Capone's loot still has come up empty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun find! I'm glad you found someone who could crack it!
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that? Now I wonder what might behind my own walls. Hmm. . . :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a GREAT worker anecdote; probably will be the best (or one of the best) worker posts for this month!!
ReplyDeleteNow to decide which of your photos you want to enlarge and frame, to place over the safe! :D

What a great story for theme day! Too bad there wasn't any forgotten treasure. But, how curious that it had been papered over...
ReplyDeleteGreat find!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tale!
ReplyDeletehow exciting that must have been!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it have been great to find something interesting inside? It makes me think about the time when my sisters and I were just kids and the house was being remodeled and an old fashioned transom above a door in our house was being closed up. My sisters and I decided we would put a costume jewelry ring up there in a nice box and leave it for someone else to discover years later. I wonder if it's still hiding inside the wall in the old house.
ReplyDeleteSorry the safe was empty but it does make a fun story and photo op! I lice in an old house and, as far as I know, there's no wall safe here. But we have torn down old walls and found interesting items. Nothing valuable, though. :)
ReplyDeleteWe found lots of old newspaper that was being used as insulation around the apartment. Even stuff that's not "valuable" is interesting.
DeleteYes, sometimes that is THE most valuable thing ... that with no value!
DeleteHow cool! If only the safe could talk...
ReplyDeleteA very good story, probably the best I have read until now for this theme day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a story! I could imagine lots of vintage stuffs inside the safe! So cool!
ReplyDeletePerfect post for the theme! Well done!
Léia
Hidden treasures of yesteryear maybe. Interesting choice for the theme.
ReplyDeleteWow! So when will everything be finished?
ReplyDeleteHopefully in three weeks. That's when we're set to move in. GULP!
DeleteThis is sure one of the best "worker" stories of the day. You will have to hang your Rembrandt over it. (And all of your blogger buddies will know where to look when we visit . . . !)
ReplyDeleteTerrific post for the theme. I really like the claw ready to grab the "jewels" ...
ReplyDeleteNice images - well done!

I agree with Jack Hal.. super exciting post.. I can just imagine the feeling as that safe door opened, could have been anything in there :) Hope we're going to see some of your interior designers handi-work :)
