I love the facade of the Martin Gropius Bau. The building was designed by none other than Martin Gropius, who was the great uncle (thanks Jack!) of Walter Gropius, one of the founders of the Bauhaus movement. I've been to a few exhibitions in the space and it's also very nice inside, perhaps it's time to see what else is coming up!
That's one place I have yet to go. Love your upturned angle!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very nice looking building
ReplyDeleteThe engravings on the building boggle my mind. There's so much detail to them.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive, like the welcoming glow through the doors too!
ReplyDeleteThe carvings on the massive columns are quite remarkable.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a splendid building Halcyon, looking forward to seeing the next exhibition you see there :)
ReplyDeleteThe building is a handsome one! I like the angel you took this photo from.

ReplyDeleteAn imposing looking building! The carvings on the columns are astonishing!
ReplyDeleteIncredible columns!
ReplyDeleteThis facade could not be further from the kind of barebones modernist buildings that Walter Gropius built. I read the article at your link, and Martin was the great-uncle of Walter Gropius, working maybe 50-75 years before Walter Gropius. The law firm where I began my career represented Walter Gropius in the USA. Frankly, I am glad that architecture is moving away from the too-severe Bauhaus look.
ReplyDeleteSuch a stunning building. So solid and sturdy. I know from nothing about Walter Gropius or any other Gropius, but I do like this architectural masterpiece!
